Jurong Lake Gardens

The Jurong Lake Gardens has recently been reopened after redevelopment, and did not disappoint. My wife and I took a Friday morning off to make our way there. (We had originally planned to take our foldies over on the train, and abandoned the idea after we discovered that no cycling is allowed in the park).

The gardens are easily accessible by train on the East-West Line. We took a cab that dropped us off at the car park. On weekdays, there are shuttle services that operate on two routes from the car parks. We chose to walk, making our way first to the Chinese Gardens through the Grand Arch. The main focal points are the Twin Pagodas, and the Cloud Pagoda. However, there are several other features, as well a bonsai garden to go and check out.

You’re likely to get hungry while walking around here. There are several Food and Beverage outlets here that offer very decent fare. We went to Eden and got some lunch.

The Japanese Garden offers a distinctly different aesthetic with a minimalist approach. The Guesthouse is bordered by a reflecting pool and overlooked by a Tea House. Further along the trail is the Waterlily Pavilion, and the Breathing Gallery.

A visit to the garden will take one about an hour to 90 minutes, and makes for a pleasant outing. If you’re in the area, consider also planning to visit the Singapore Science Centre which is connected to the gardens.
